The University of Hawai'i football program secured commitments from 13 prospects during the early signing period on Wednesday. Among the group are seven prep standouts and six junior college transfers. Six are listed as offensive players, six play on the defensive side of the ball and one listed as an athlete. Highlighting the class are three local standouts – offensive lineman Arasi Mose (Honolulu, O'ahu) of state champion Saint Louis School, linebacker Darius Muasau (Mililani, O'ahu) of state runner-up Mililani High School and defensive back Tiger Peterson (Honolulu, O'ahu) of Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama. Sugidono More than 20 schools from across the Islands in addition to 2 Oregon high schools competed in the 51st annual Garner Ivey Maui Invitational this past Friday and Saturday at Maui High School. Kamehameha Kapālama won the boys team title, while Baldwin took second, Le Grande of Oregon third and Lahainaluna fourth. The Kapālama girls took the 3rd place overall, behind Baldwin High School (1) and Waiʻanae High School (2). Akana helped the Warriors finish in sixth place and the Raiders ended the tournament in ninth. Kamehameha made it into the championship division but got swept 25-17, 25-22 by Redondo Union (Calif.), which made it to the title match before losing to Assumption (Ky.). The Warriors opened play today in the prestigious annual girls volleyball tournament with a 25-19, 25-10 sweep of Village Christian (Calif.). Then, they defeated powerhouse Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) 25-18, 24-26, 25-17. Their final match was a 25-9, 25-2 win over Rim of the World (Calif.) to finish 3-0 in pool play. Also playing is ʻIolani, the No. 2 team in the Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10. Braelyn Akana ['19] insists that she is 5-foot-10. She’s actually 5-11, and either way, she will never stop working toward her dreams. One of them is already coming true for the Kamehameha senior. She will play volleyball for Hawaii next season. At 5-foot-9 and skilled in every possible way on the volleyball court, Keonilei Akana ['20] is a trusty part of any coach’s team.
